Karen Huebbers joined the Zoo Leadership Team in early 2019. She is a strong, innovative leader with over 25 years’ experience in strategic fundraising, organizational development and sustainable solutions for non-profits. Karen has raised millions of dollars for multiple organizations: Gateway for Cancer Research, Project Hope, University Health System and the Community Coalition for Haiti. Most recently, she has established signature fundraising events in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Phoenix and Palm Beach along with expanding major gifts in each region. With a degree in architecture from the University of Virginia, Karen spent the first 10 years of her career designing residential and commercial projects including interiors for the office of the Secretary of State, Madeline Albright. From there, Karen directed international programs in healthcare, education, agriculture, small business development and community engagement. Her work has taken her to China, Haiti, Uganda, Guatemala, Kenya, and the Dominican Republic. In Haiti, Karen developed solutions for reforestation, reintroduction of native species and water conservation. She believes her greatest contribution is strategic engagement - connecting the transformative power of the Zoo’s mission to potential partners who deeply desire to make a difference.
