Animal Care Interns will work side-by-side with Zoologists to provide daily husbandry, enrichment and exhibit maintenance to a varied animal collection. Interns may work with large and small mammals including primates, carnivores and herbivores; a wide variety of birds; and/or reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates of all sizes. Interns will be trained in animal management techniques and will have the opportunity to observe and sometimes participate in animal training sessions. Program Animal Interns may be trained to handle various birds, mammals and reptiles and learn a variety of behavior management techniques. Program Animal Interns also participate in animal shows as animal handlers and by delivering dialogue on microphone. Staff, interns and volunteers at Palm Beach Zoo engage visitors on a daily basis through formal keeper talks and informal animal encounters. Palm Beach Zoo is seeking applicants that have a passion for conservation and a desire to engage and educate the public on conservation initiatives.
All applicants must commit to a minimum of 360 hours over a 15 week period (three – five days per week) and must be physically able to stoop, bend, reach, climb, lift, carry or push at least 50 pounds in a south Florida climate. Applicants must also submit proof of a negative TB test, and proof of current college enrollment or of college graduation no more than three years prior to the graduation date. This internship is unpaid and no housing is provided. Selection preference for internships will be given to undergraduate or graduate-level students studying in the fields of biology, zoology, psychology or related disciplines who are looking to pursue a career in the zoological field. Applicants that have experience within a zoological, veterinary, environmental or rehabilitation facility are preferred.

This internship will benefit someone who is interested in gaining valuable knowledge in a well-rounded marketing role via digital communications, media relations and audience development. The Social and Digital Media Intern will play an active role in creating digital content for the Zoo's hip & happening social platforms, and website that is relevant to our mission to inspire people to act on behalf of wildlife and the natural world.

Requirements: All applicants must be pursuing a degree in the areas of business, marketing, communications, recreation, or a related field and must commit to a minimum of 360 hours of work over a 15 week period with a minimum of and three (3) per week, as well as be able to work outdoors in a typical Florida climate and lift up to 50lbs. This internship opportunity is unpaid and no housing is provided. All interns must be able to work nights and weekends as needed, no major holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving or Easter) are required. Computer experience including Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and Power Point is a must. Due to potential exposure to non-human primates, all applicants regardless of placement must present proof of a negative TB test administered within the past year.

The Palm Beach Zoo has internship opportunities available for undergraduate level students that are interested in gaining experience in the fields of marketing, advertising, and event planning.
The Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society is home to over 550 animals from Florida, North, South and Central America, Australia, and Madagascar. Our institution houses many ambassador animals including koala, capybara, malayan tigers, north american black bears, giant anteaters, a variety of primate and avian species and many more. The staff and animals are here to inspire people to act on behalf of wildlife and the natural world.
The Melvin J. & Claire Levine Animal Care Complex is a 10,000 square foot LEED certified building, comprised of a hospital and quarantine facilities. The fully functioning hospital includes an in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ICU, pharmacy, a surgical suite, and necropsy room. The Veterinary staff consists of a head veterinarian and two certified veterinary technicians. As an intern you will assist with preventative medicine, care of medical cases, quarantine, pathology, laboratory diagnostics, maintaining medical records and data entry under the supervision of the veterinarian or veterinary technicians. The intern will gain hands on experience in the care and handling of reptiles, birds, primates, carnivores, hoofstock, and amphibians. The intern is to complete one major project and present it to the veterinary technicians at the end of their internship.
There is no stipend for this position. Housing and transportation is the responsibility of the student. Preference is given to those students with veterinary clinic experience.

The Palm Beach Zoo's mission is to protect wildlife and wildlife habitat, and to inspire others to value and conserve the natural world. Education interns assist in meeting this mission, while gaining valuable hands-on experience. Summer internships run May 31 - August 13, part-time or full-time.
Job Description: Gain teaching and animal-handling experience by assisting with the zoo's summer camp program. Present animal encounters to campers and to the public. Lead small groups of campers in zookeeping activities. Teach science lessons. Assist education staff in developing and evaluating new curriculum. Full-time interns will complete a term project.
Requirements: Applicants should be college students with at least one year completed, or recent college graduates. Good communication and public speaking skills required. Able to interact well with children, staff, volunteers and zoo guests. Self-motivated, reliable, up-beat, and able to work outdoors in hot/humid weather. If accepted, applicants must provide proof of a negative TB test within the last year, and must pass a drug screen and background check.

Volunteer Services Internship (Unpaid)
The Palm Beach zoo volunteer office is offering a NEW and exciting internship opportunity in the field of Volunteer Services. The volunteer office has grown tremendously this past 2 years from 32 active volunteers to 200, and with one time volunteers saw a total of 799 volunteers last year. With this recent growth, came transformation of the volunteer office as a whole. We transformed the old hospital into the volunteer headquarters with a new intern office, manager’s office and volunteer break room. The volunteer office developed gold and eagle scout program that has led to the renovation of our winter bird room, lemur island and coming soon howler monkey and wallaby exhibit that has been engineered and overseen from start to finish by the zoos volunteer manager. We are looking forward to year 3 of the volunteer program and growth!
