Dr. Stephanie Allard -
Director of Research and Animal Welfare

Dr. Allard joined the Palm Beach Zoo in 2006 after spending five years as a part of Zoo Atlanta’s Research Department. As the Curator of Behavioral Research and Animal Welfare, Dr. Allard is responsible for developing and overseeing the zoo’s ex-situ research activities and coordinating projects conducted on property by outside researchers. She also oversees behavioral husbandry training and enrichment for the zoo’s animal collection and provides support for the in-house conservation education programs. Dr. Allard is also involved in the zoo’s field conservation programs. 

Dr. Allard received a B.S. from Emory University in 2000, a M.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2004, and a PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011. She has taught undergraduate and graduate level classes in general psychology, environmental psychology, and behaviorism. She has been a guest lecturer for the Santa Fe Teaching Zoo and has been an invited speaker at Florida Atlantic University. Her work has been presented at various national conferences and has been published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Allard is a member of the American Society for Primatologists, the National Honors Society of Anthropology, and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.  In addition, she is the coordinator for the pygmy marmoset and pygmy geese Species Survival Plans (SSP), the Waterfowl Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) Behavioral Advisor, the Spider Monkey Species Survival Plan Behavioral Advisor, and serves on the Prosimian TAG Steering Committee.
