Sea Turtles have been around for millions of years, and they inhabit all of the worlds oceans except the Arctic. But did you know that all seven species of sea turtles are currently threatened with extinction? In honor of the sea turtle, Pura Vida Divers will be hosting a Social Night on May 10th, 2013 to raise awareness for sea turtles. This is a FREE event! It doesn’t matter if you’re a diver, surfer or beach goer, everyone is welcome to attend. So join us for an evening of socializing, delicious food, and sea turtles! Palm Beach Zoo Conservation Biologist Larry Wood from the Comprehensive Florida Hawksbill Research and Conservation Program will be presenting. Topics will include: sea turtle ecology (habitat and behavior), current research, “Sea Turtle Manners” (what we should and should not do when we see sea turtles locally), and what we all can do to protect sea turtle populations worldwide.

Join Pura Vida Divers and Palm Beach Zoo's Conservation Biologist Larry Wood on May 12th for a two tank afternoon dive trip aboard Sirena. As divers, we get to observe sea turtles in their natural environment and with frequent and regular sightings, we often become familiar with local trends. This led recreational scuba diver, Larry, to initiated the state’s first and only study to focus on the endangered Hawksbill sea turtles. The Comprehensive Florida Hawksbill Research and Conservation Program’s study of our endangered Hawksbill sea turtles, encourages and facilitates marine research as well as the conservation of Florida’s coral reef habitats. On May 12th, our goal is to conduct observational turtle dives, with the aid of Larry Wood, to view Hawksbill sea turtles in their natural environment. The two tank trip aboard Sirena will include a boat pass, 2 air tanks, a donation to the Comprehensive Florida Hawksbill Research and Conservation Program, and a Pura Vida/Palm Beach Zoo shirt
