National Ice Cream Day

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared that the 3rd Saturday in July is National Ice Cream Day!  Sounds good to us!  Let’s celebrate!

On Saturday, July 20, 2013 the first 500 guests through our gate starting at 9am will receive a free 3.4 oz sample cup of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and a coupon for “Buy 3 get 1 Free” ice cream novelties at any of the Zoo snack bars that day, courtesy of our ice cream novelty provider Arctica Frozen Solutions. Samples will include Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and Cookie Dough.

We can’t think of a better way to cool off on a South Florida summer day, please join us for National Ice Cream Day!

There is a great conservation message in this event, too.  Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, a Unilever product, is made with palm oil sourced from RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certified providers.  Non-sustainable palm oil farming is one of the activities putting many species at risk, including one of the Zoo’s most prominent species, the Malayan Tiger.
