The Stanley crane also known as the blue crane, is the national bird of South Africa where it inhabits upland grasslands and fynbos.
Nesting occurs in secluded grasslands and agricultural lands where eggs are laid on the bare ground.
The Stanley crane has officially been classified as critically endangered by the IUCN due to significant declines in recent years.
