Serval
- Leptailurus serval
- African servals live in tall grass in the African savannahs and woodlands usually near water. The spotted coat breaks up their body outline in the grass.
- Large ears aide in hearing prey and opposable wrists help in capturing burrowing animals.
- They eat a wide variety of food including birds, mammals and reptiles.
- Built for agility, they have been known to jump about 10-12 feet straight up in the air from a standstill to grab birds flying overhead.
- Hunted for its attractive coat, the serval is listed as threatened. The serval is also used as a source of meat in some areas of Africa.
