Seba's Short-tailed Bat

Carollia Perspicillata
Being a nocturnal species, short-tailed bats are active foragers of fruits during the evening hours retreating to caves once daylight hits.
The fleshy leaf-shaped disk on the nose of this bat species is used for echolocation to navigate the forests in dark conditions.
They are native to South and Central America where they are found in moist evergreen and deciduous forests.
This species is an important seed disperser for fruiting trees, particularly plants of the black pepper plant family.
They have been observed to go into torpor, a state of decreased metabolism much like a brief hibernation, when conditions are poor.
