Red-shouldered Hawk

Buteo Lineatus
These graceful hunters are native to the eastern United States where they inhabit deciduous and coniferous stands.
They are fairly large broad winged hawks with reddish secondary wing coverts; females are slightly larger than males.
They are monogamous and territorial with males courting potential mates by performing an acrobatic "sky dance".
They are protected under the Migratory Bird Act.
