Red-fronted Macaw*

Ara Rubrogenys
Easily distinguished from the other macaw species at the zoo, this bird is mainly green with a red cap and orange-red patches on the flight feathers.
They are relatively large birds with body lengths of 36 inches and wingspan of almost four feet.
They are native to the tropical forests of South and Central America where they forage for nuts and berries in the forest canopy.
These birds congregate in flocks of 100 or more individuals while pairs within the group that mate for life tend to fly close together.
