Prehensile-tailed Skink*
- Corucia Zebrata
- This is the largest of the skink family with a body length of as much as 12 inches and a total length on nearly 3 feet.
- The prehensile-tailed skink is native only to the Solomon Islands in the south Pacific, hailing their other common name, Solomon Islands tree skink.
- This nocturnal herbivore feeds mainly on leafy vegetation and flowers of the tree canopy where it resides.
- Females give live birth to a single offspring every 2-3 years and they exhibit some parental care which is almost unheard of in lizards.
- It is currently not listed as threatened, but it is protected under CITES II to limit international trade of this species for the growing pet trade.
