Northern Great Horned Owl
- Bubo Virginianus Virginianus
- The great horned owl is found through out most dense woodlands and forests in North, Central, and South America
- Easily identifiable by its ear tufts that look like horns, the great horned owl is a large bird with a wingspan of almost 5 feet.
- Owls are expert nocturnal hunters because they have excellent low-light vision and asymmetrical ears that help them localize sounds made by prey.
- Heavy consumers of pest rodents, owls are encouraged by farmers to hunt for rats, rabbits, and other small mammals.
- They are protected under the Migratory Bird Act.
