Laughing Kookaburra
- Dacelo novaeguineae
- This large member of the kingfisher family measures 40 - 45 cm in length and has a chuckling voice that gives this species its name.
- Laughing kookaburras feed mostly on insects, worms and crustaceans and occasionally small snakes, mammals, frogs and birds.
- They inhabit most areas where there are suitable trees throughout eastern Australia. They have been introduced to Tasmania and the extreme south-west of Western Australia, as well as New Zealand.
- This bird is considered common in Australia.
