Hedgehog
- Atelerix albiventris
- Hedgehogs have a round body low to the ground with an average length of 7 to 9 inches.
- When threatened, the hedgehog contracts its muscles, rolls itself into a ball the size of a large grapefruit which forces its quills out in all directions. When relaxed, the quills lie flat against the body.
- Hedgehog's spines are brown or gray in color with cream tips. Their face and underside are a soft, light colored fur.
- They are nocturnal and are constantly moving and can travel several miles in one night.
- Hedgehogs are omnivores, mainly eating spiders, insects, plant and small vertebrates.
