Green-cheeked Amazon

Amazona Viridigenalis
This medium sized parrot is green with a red crown, giving it the other name of red-crowned parrot.
Wild populations are restricted to a small area on the Gulf coast of Mexico where they gather in pairs or large flocks in tropical deciduous forests and palm forests.
This arboreal species has zygodactyl feet which means two toes face forward and two toes face backward which help it climb.
A feral flock of this species has been established in Palm Beach County.
As of 1994 this species has been listed by the IUCN as endangered mainly due to collection for the pet trade and deforestation.
