Golden Conure
- Aratinga guarouba
- The golden conure is considered to be the largest of all conures.
- They prefer upland areas of dry rainforest that protect them from floods.
- Their diet consists of exotic fruits, flowers, buds, and assorted seeds.
- They are very playful and family oriented and will often assist in the raising of young from other birds.
- The golden conure is endangered, due to deforestation and illegal cage bird trade. Listed in Appendix l of CITES. The long-term survival of the species will depend on protecting suitable habitat in Brazil.
Location at Palm Beach Zoo
- Between the scarlet macaws and sloth exhibit on the west side of the Zoo.
