Florida Pine Snake

Pituophis Melanoleucus Mugitus
This heavy bodied snake reaches lengths of up to 7 feet.
They feed on various small mammals and birds as well as amphibians, reptiles, and eggs.
Their range includes almost all of Florida as well as parts of Georgia where they inhabit sandy soils of open areas and pine woodlots.
When startled they release a musky secretion that can irritate mucosal membranes of potential predators.
The Florida pine snake is listed as a species of special concern, meaning that it is not currently threatened but should be monitored as it may become vulnerable.
