Florida Panther
Felis concolor coryi
Florida Panthers are tawny brown and pale gray. Kittens have dark spots for camouflage. An adult can weigh from 70 to 130 lbs.
They are usually found in pinelands and mixed swamp forests, They are currently only born in South Florida.
Panthers primarily eat white-tailed deer, wild pigs, small alligators, raccoons, rodents, and even birds.
To find a meal, a panther may travel 15 to 20 miles a day. Panthers typically walk more at night when it is cooler and rest during the daylight hours.
The Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission has reported that since 1972, 88 panthers have been killed by collisions with vehicles.
There are approximately 80 panthers in existence, including around 20 breeding females.
