Eastern Harris' Hawk*

Parabuteo Unicinctus Harrisi
The Harris' hawk is truly native to South America and has extended its range to include portions of Central America and the southern United States where it inhabits semi-arid open areas.
The coloration of this elegant bird is maroon-brown with chest-nut shoulders, under-wing coverts, and thighs.
They hunt in large family groups in the fashion of pack animals, assisting each other when making a large kill.
Being social birds of prey, they are the most popular birds used in modern day falconry.
Although the Harris' hawk rarely migrates, they are still protected under the Migratory Bird Act.
