Eastern Harris' Hawk*
- Parabuteo Unicinctus Harrisi
- The Harris' hawk is truly native to South America and has extended its range to include portions of Central America and the southern United States where it inhabits semi-arid open areas.
- The coloration of this elegant bird is maroon-brown with chest-nut shoulders, under-wing coverts, and thighs.
- They hunt in large family groups in the fashion of pack animals, assisting each other when making a large kill.
- Being social birds of prey, they are the most popular birds used in modern day falconry.
- Although the Harris' hawk rarely migrates, they are still protected under the Migratory Bird Act.
