Eastern Brown Pelican
- Pelecanus occidentalis
- The brown pelican is a large grayish-brown bird with a long beak and a thin, membranous pouch.
- They fish for their diet by diving into water from 10 to 30 feet in the air. They are the only pelican species that dives for prey.
- Found in the coastal areas of southern United States as well as Central and South America.
- Pelicans are often injured from fishing hooks and lines, oil spills and pesticides.
- Endangered (Except along Atlantic coast and Alabama).

- The west side of the Zoo in the waterway.
