Chinese Muntjac
- Muntiacus Reevesi
- Chinese muntjacs are native to the subtropical forests of southeastern China and Taiwan.
- Unlike other antlered deer, they use their tusk-like canines to defend territory and gain access to females.
- They have a chestnut-colored coat with a 4-inch black and white tail. Females tend to be slightly lighter in color than males.
- Muntjac are often called barking deer. They bark when predators are in their territory and with each other when subordinate and dominant animals come into contact.
- Chinese muntjacs weigh 20 to 60 pounds and stand 25 to 45 inches in height.
