Broad-nosed Caiman
- Caiman latirostris
- Broad-nosed Caiman usually reaches lengths of up to 6 feet. Adults are pale olive green in color with a ridge running down their wide snout.
- This highly aquatic species is found in freshwater, mangroves, marshes and swamps in northern Argentina, southeast Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
- They eat snails, fish, and amphibians. A larger caiman is able to eat turtles with its powerful, rounded snout.
- There are only 14 broad-nosed caiman in North American accredited Zoos. Five males are located at the Palm Beach Zoo.
