Bell's Hingeback Tortoise

Kinixys Belliana
This long slender species has evolved a hinged joint along the back carapace which can close and protect its hind legs and tail
They reside in the dry savannahs and grasslands on the outskirts of the forests in central Africa
During the dry season they aestivate in muddy wallows of drying up lakes and ponds
Omnivorous in the wild, they feed on vegetation and invertebrates such as worms, slugs, and insects
