Bald Eagle

Bald Eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Adult bald eagles weigh between 6 and 8 pounds. They measure 27 to 45 inches tall and have a wingspan of 6 to 8 feet.
After becoming an adult, typically at four years of age, the feathers on the head and tail change to the characteristic white color.
They are found throughout North America. They can be seen from Alaska and Canada to Florida.
In the wild, their diet consists primarily of fish. They will also eat muskrats, ducks, other water birds, turtles, and carrion as well.
Bald eagles were removed from the Endangered Species List in early 1998. They are still protected and listed as a CITES I species.
