Arrau Turtle

Podocnemis Expansa
They are also known as the giant South American river turtle.
This large freshwater turtle can weigh up to 100 pounds with females usually slightly larger than males.
They feed mainly on vegetation but they will also consume some animal matter.
Arrau turtles inhabit slow moving waters such as ponds or lakes found in the tropical regions of South America.
Females usually lay between 15-20 eggs several times a year.
This species has been classified by the IUCN as endangered since 1982.
