Arrau Turtle

- They are also known as the giant South American river turtle.
- This large freshwater turtle can weigh up to 100 pounds with females usually slightly larger than males.
- They feed mainly on vegetation but they will also consume some animal matter.
- Arrau turtles inhabit slow moving waters such as ponds or lakes found in the tropical regions of South America.
- Females usually lay between 15-20 eggs several times a year.
- This species has been classified by the IUCN as endangered since 1982.
