Argentine Tortoise
- Geochelone Chilensis Chilensis
- They inhabit grasslands and semi-arid regions of Argentina, Paraguay, and portions of Chile.
- Due to the cold winters experienced in its native habitat, it has been documented that the Argentine tortoise digs deep burrows to hibernate.
- They are closely related to the red-footed tortoise and yellow-footed tortoise and are the smallest species of that genus.
- They feed primarily on leafy greens, some fruit, and occasional animal matter.
- This species is listed by the IUCN as vulnerable so efforts must be made to prevent over collection for the pet trade and loss of habitat.
