Kids’ Dreams to be First Sponsor of Zoo School

November 13, 2012

What better way to learn about the Palm Beach Zoo than to attend school here? That’s the reality for Palm Beach County elementary students attending Title I schools.  And it’s all thanks to Kids’ Dreams, Inc., the first sponsor of Zoo School, the newest education program at the Palm Beach Zoo.

Zoo School is an innovative and memorable way for students to experience school in an outdoor classroom setting. The program is offered to Palm Beach County elementary students, grades 3 – 5, attending Title I schools with an 80% or higher population of “at-risk” students. The one week, on-site program will be offered October through May for class sizes of 18 to 22 students.

Kids' Dreams President, Patricia Lebow, says they’re pleased to be the first sponsor of the new program.

“Zoo School will provide financially disadvantaged students the opportunity to explore academic pursuits outside the classroom. The exposure to new areas of interest for these students not only enriches their lives, but also opens their minds to future employment opportunities and reinforces for them the importance of a good education,” said Lebow.

Students and their teachers will use the Zoo’s portable Zoo School classroom as their homeroom for the week and enjoy all aspects of the Zoo each day. Zoo educators will provide outdoor lessons, activities featuring live animals and behind-the-scenes tours that are tailored to Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine Standards and follow the Scope and Sequence schedule for Science as recommended by the Palm Beach County School District.

“The Zoo is very pleased to have Kids’ Dreams as a sponsor of this important educational program. This represents the next level in our long-standing relationship with Kids’ Dreams, an organization that shares our commitment to children and education,” said Andrew Aiken, president and CEO of the Palm Beach Zoo.

In accordance with its mission to provide economically disadvantaged youth with academic support and extracurricular experiences in conjunction with mentoring by law enforcement officers, Kids' Dreams plans to have a member of the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office actively participate and speak to the Title I youth in their Zoo Classroom.

“I am especially enthusiastic about this new program which gives sponsorship opportunities to the business community and the not for profit community to support the Palm Beach Zoo in its education outreach mission,” said Lebow.

Kids’ Dreams, Inc. is a Section 501(c)(3) Public Charity.
