Big Birthday Bash for Bears & Panthers on New Year’s Day

December 24, 2012

Celebrate the New Year at the Palm Beach Zoo where we will also be celebrating the birthdays of our black bears and panthers. Be there with cameras rolling as they enjoy their birthday treats the morning of New Year’s Day.

Black bear brothers, Lewis and Clark, will be turning 12 years old. They arrived at the Zoo in May 2001 after their mother was struck and killed by a truck.

Panthers, Washington and Idaho, will turn one year old. Washington came to the Zoo in April, Idaho followed in June. The cats were orphaned when each of their mothers was euthanized as a result of coming too close to homes.

We are planning to surprise the birthday boys with treats as their presents. The panthers will enjoy their gifts at 11 a.m. and the bears at 12:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Children can also take part in the festivities by making a panther mask and bear puppet to take home.
